Comparison: Study Finds Surgeons and Support Staff Prefer Waste-Reducing Reusable Surgical Textiles

From the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses, this study compared two different operating rooms in Bethesda, Maryland, and Washington, DC to evaluate the effects of using reusable surgical basins, gowns, and table and Mayo stand covers in place of disposable products. The survey’s results indicate that surgeons and staff prefer reusable products to their disposable counterparts.

Furthermore, it found the use of reusable products decreases regulated medical waste generated in the OR by an average of 65% and reduces the cost of waste disposal.
